Freezing in MLB The Show 26 can be super frustrating, especially during Diamond Dynasty when you’re mid-game or building your squad. These freezes are often caused by menu glitches, server lag, or console memory issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide from an experienced player on how to fix them.
1. Bypass Squad Builder Freezes
The Squad Builder and lineup screens are notorious for crashing.
Use the Mobile Companion App: Instead of managing your roster on the console, download the official MLB The Show Companion App on your phone. You can edit lineups, manage your inventory, and buy or sell items on the marketplace safely without freezing your console.
2. Fix Pitcher and Bullpen Freezes (Offline DD)
Freezes often happen when selecting or replacing pitchers in Mini Seasons, Conquest, or Challenges.
Enable Auto Bullpen Warm-up: Go to Gameplay Settings before starting Diamond Dynasty and turn this ON. This bypasses the bugged manual warm-up menu that causes freezes.
Avoid Quick Menus: If you need to substitute players mid-game, always use the full pause menu instead of the D-pad quick menu to prevent crashes.
3. Clear System Memory and Disable 120Hz/HDR
Memory and high visual processing can trigger freezes in menus and games.
Full Hard Reset: Shut down your console completely. Unplug the power cable for 60 seconds to clear cache, then restart.
Turn Off Background Features: Avoid Quick Resume on Xbox or Rest Mode on PS5 when playing. Always close the game manually from the dashboard.
Adjust Video Outputs: On Xbox Series X/S, temporarily disable 120Hz output and HDR in system settings. This reduces visual strain and helps keep menu frame rates stable.
4. Manage Active "Freeze-Offs" (Online DD)
If your game freezes mid-match while players are idle, it’s often a peer-to-peer lock called a “freeze-off.”
Do Not Quit Immediately: Exiting first counts as a loss. If you’re winning or protecting a streak, stay connected until it resolves.
Update the Game: From the console dashboard, check for updates on the MLB The Show tile. Make sure you are on Version 1.02 or higher, as stability patches fix menu loop and matchmaking freezes.
