The collaboration between Jacob & Co. and Bugatti has been a hot topic in the watchmaking world, with their creations themed around the classic Chiron sports car gaining widespread popularity. Now, the two brands have joined forces again to launch the Bugatti Tourbillon, a pinnacle of craftsmanship and luxury from both watchmaking and sports car engineering, satisfying the passions of top-tier collectors.

The renewed partnership dates back to September 2022, when Bugatti privately announced to its partner, Jacob & Co., that it would develop a new supercar to replace the long-running Chiron, featuring a new engine, a completely new design, and unprecedented levels of mechanical engineering and luxury. In January 2023, Jacob & Co. visited Bugatti's design studio, where founder Jacob Arabo, CEO Benjamin Arabov, and their team collaborated with the Bugatti design team led by Achim Anscheidt and Jan Schmid. This meeting ultimately led to the birth of the Bugatti Tourbillon—a name that represents both a supercar and a watch.

In the art of watchmaking, the tourbillon is considered to represent the highest form of complication, and this is precisely the characteristic we wanted to embody through the Bugatti Tourbillon supercar."
The Bugatti Tourbillon watch is less a direct inspiration from the supercar and more a "parallel design." Within this 52mm long, 44mm wide, and 15mm thick timepiece, you can see that the creation of the watch and the car were mutually influential, both striving for breakthroughs. The spearhead-shaped front and sides feature three air intake-shaped recesses covered with a laser-etched grid pattern. Two large sapphire crystal windows on the sides of the case, resembling the windows of a supercar, reveal the 557-part JCAM55 movement.

The biggest highlight of the JCAM55 movement is undoubtedly its breathtaking V16 automatic transmission. Those familiar with the collaboration between Jacob & Co. and Bugatti will recognize the engine design, but closer inspection reveals differences. As mentioned earlier, the Bugatti Tourbillon was designed to succeed the Chiron, with Bugatti designing a new engine for the new model. Jacob & Co., keeping pace with this innovation, naturally had to innovate as well.
Jacob & Co. used a large sapphire crystal, drilled holes in it, and installed 16 miniature pistons made of titanium. These pistons, driven by a single-axis crankshaft, represent one of the most incredible achievements in watchmaking. This is one of the longest, most complex, and most precise watch components ever created, its structure modeled after an internal combustion engine. It must be perfectly straight, lightweight, and properly positioned so that the cylinders can fire in the correct sequence. When the automatic mechanism is activated, the crankshaft rotates, and all 16 cylinders operate simultaneously. The difference is immediately apparent when comparing this new "engine" to the Bugatti Chiron watch.
The dial design of the Bugatti Tourbillon watch shares the same origins as the dashboard design of Bugatti supercars. The left side features the brand's fastest 30-second flying tourbillon to date, while the right subdial simultaneously indicates the power reserve of both the movement and the engine (i.e., the engine). The central dial displays the hours and minutes, exhibiting a retrograde display similar to the tachometer and speedometer on supercars. The Bugatti Tourbillon watch is limited to 250 pieces, the same as the namesake supercar. The first black DLC titanium version is limited to 150 pieces, leaving room for other limited editions in various colors, precious materials and high jewelry versions.
