I’ve spent over 65 hours in-game, surviving more than 2,000 rounds, and earning over 250 individual GobbleGums—all while meticulously recording everything I could about how GobbleGums are earned. My goal? To figure out exactly how GobbleGums work. I tracked when I earned them, which rounds, which types, and during double GobbleGum weekends, compiling mountains of data, stats, and graphs along the way.
This article summarizes my findings and explains the system behind GobbleGum earn rates, distributions, and rarities.
Tracking Methodology
Every time I earned a GobbleGum, I recorded:
The round it was earned
In-game time
Which GobbleGums I received
I also tracked whether I was using Rampage Inducers, double GobbleGums, and whether the game was a new start or a continuation from a save. With this, I created what I consider the most complex GobbleGum spreadsheet ever, which automatically calculates totals, averages, and distributions.
Spin Distribution
During the study, I logged 198 GobbleGum spins:
Single GobbleGum spins: 149 (~75%)
Two GobbleGums: 31 (~15%)
Three GobbleGums: 18 (~10%)
Breaking it down between regular and double GobbleGum modes:
Mode Spins 1 Gum 2 Gums 3 Gums Avg. Time Between Spins
Regular 95 68 15 12 26 min
Double 103 81 16 6 13 min
As expected, double GobbleGums cut the time between spins in half, but the distribution of one, two, or three GobbleGums per spin stays largely consistent.
GobbleGum Rarity Breakdown
Based on my data, GobbleGum rarities appear approximately as follows:
Rare: 50%
Epic: 30%
Legendary: 15%
Ultra: 5%
Even with double GobbleGum active, these probabilities remain roughly the same, and no individual GobbleGum seems to have a higher or lower chance than others within its rarity bracket.
Is the System Round-Based or Time-Based?
Unlike Black Ops 3, where liquid Divinium was earned on fixed round intervals, Black Ops 7’s GobbleGums are not round-based. You can earn GobbleGums as early as round 2 or 3, and sometimes you won’t earn any until much later.
My analysis suggests GobbleGums are primarily time-based, likely with an XP check:
Regular GobbleGums: ~25–26 minutes per spin
Double GobbleGums: ~12–13 minutes per spin
This prevents players from simply AFK farming GobbleGums, as you must earn sufficient XP within the time window.
Why the Times Can Vary
Sometimes, the gap between spins is unusually long or short. This happens because:
GobbleGums are awarded only at round transitions. If you earn a GobbleGum mid-round, it won’t appear until the next round.
High rounds take longer, so spins seem more frequent, but that’s just because each round lasts longer.
Special activities like boss fights may slow down XP accumulation, delaying GobbleGum awards.
For example, I once spent 2 hours practicing a boss fight across multiple rounds and earned only one GobbleGum during that time. This aligns perfectly with the theory of time-based spins with an XP check.
Additional Notes
Rampage Inducers: From my limited sample (2 games), they do not appear to affect GobbleGum earn rates. They simply help you progress faster.
High Rounds: Do not inherently increase GobbleGum earn rates. You might see more spins at high rounds, but that’s because each round lasts longer.
Double XP: I did not observe that standard double XP tokens double GobbleGum earnings. The system seems tied to real in-game time and XP checks.
Summary
Here’s what we learned from over 65 hours of intense data collection:
GobbleGum spins are time-based, with a likely XP requirement.
Regular spins: ~25–26 minutes per spin.
Double GobbleGums: ~12–13 minutes per spin.
Distribution of spins: 1 GobbleGum ~75%, 2 ~15%, 3 ~10%.
GobbleGum rarities: Rare 50%, Epic 30%, Legendary 15%, Ultra 5%.
Double GobbleGum mode does not change spin distribution or rarity probabilities.
Round number, Rampage Inducer, or high rounds do not affect earn rates.
In short, just playing the game normally is the best way to earn GobbleGums.
